Web Design

Dave first wrote a web page in 1996 with a text editor !     These days the tools available make the job easier but it is still important to understand what is going on ‘under the bonnet’ if you want to design and create an efficient website.

We are able to create mobile friendly websites at a very reasonable cost.   As we have a re-seller account with the UK’s leading hosting company ‘Heart Internet’ (click here for details and make sure you scroll down to see all their awards) we can offer very competitive prices and you can be sure that speed of response is a good as it gets.  If you already have a website but think you are paying too much, why not contact us for a competitive quote ?

Thinking of building your own ?  Be sure you pay attention to hidden costs that may follow after an initial free period.  Also most of these sites create web pages that cannot be easily transferred to another hosting company and have very limited functionality.

In detail, here are some of Dave’s web skills (all the definitions taken from Wikipedia):

WordPress – a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. WordPress is installed on a web server that is either part of an Internet hosting service or a network host in its own right. The first case may be a service like, for example, and the second case could be a computer running the software package A local computer may be used for single-user testing and learning purposes. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system. WordPress was used by more than 27.5% of the top 10 million websites as of February 2017. WordPress is reportedly the most popular website management or blogging system in use on the Web, supporting more than 60 million websites.

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) – the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. With Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript it forms a triad of cornerstone technologies for the World Wide Web. Web browsers receive HTML documents from a webserver or from local storage and render them into multimedia web pages. HTML describes the structure of a web page semantically and originally included cues for the appearance of the document.

PHP is a server-side scripting language designed primarily for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. Originally created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, the PHP reference implementation is now produced by The PHP Development Team. PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page, but it now stands for the recursive acronym PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) – a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language.

Javascript – a prototype-based, multi-paradigm scripting language that is dynamic, and supports object-oriented, imperative, and functional programming styles.JavaScript runs on the client side of the web, which can be used to design / program how the web pages behave on the occurrence of an event.

Structured Query Language (SQL) – a domain-specific language used in programming and designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS), or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system (RDSMS).

MySQL – an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). Its name is a combination of “My”, the name of co-founder Michael Widenius’ daughter, and “SQL”, the abbreviation for Structured Query Language.

Search engine optimization (SEO) – the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users; these visitors can then be converted into customers. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

We cannot publish links to all our websites since some are for private use only (but these can be demonstrated).   Other than this site itself, here are some recent examples:
